Description
Virgin of Lourdes
The Virgin of Lourdes is one of the most famous advocations of the Virgin Mary in the world. It all happened in early 1858 in the grotto of Massabielle in Lourdes, France.
There, at the foot of the Pyrenees, a young girl named Marie Bernadette Soubirous witnessed eighteen apparitions of the Virgin.
Our Lady of Lourdes has a deep-rooted tradition of miracles attributed to her intercession of healings of health problems and in favor of people who are hopeless, which is why she is the patron saint of the sick.
In the successive apparitions to Bernadette, the Virgin asked her for penance, prayer for sinners and prayed the rosary with her, besides expressing her desire that a chapel be erected in the grotto, where the famous Lourdes Sanctuary is currently located.
