Description
Saint Therese of Lisieux
Saint Therese of Lisieux, better known as Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face, is one of the best known and most beloved saints in the Catholic Church.
She entered the Carmelite convent of Lisieux when she was fifteen years old, in 1893 she was appointed novice mistress and lived there for the rest of her life.
She exemplified the “little way”, deep devotion to God and sought holiness through the performance of humble tasks. Her superiors asked her to write an account of her life. Story of a Soul (1898) became one of the most widely read spiritual autobiographies of all time.
Numerous miracles were attributed to her, giving meaning to her mysterious promise: “after my death I will let a shower of roses fall”. She was canonized in 1925, and is the patron saint of missionaries and aviators. Her feast day is celebrated on October 1.
