Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a devotion based on a Byzantine icon of the Cretan school. It is also known as Our Lady of Perpetual Succour.
In this representation we can appreciate the archangels Gabriel and Michael presenting to the child Jesus the instruments of his future sufferings: the cross and the lance that pierces his side.
When contemplating this dramatic vision, the Child Jesus, in his condition of mortal man, is frightened and trembles and, in an instinctive and spontaneous movement, seeks the protection of his Mother and holds tightly the hand that she offers him.
